The focus of this class is helping your child feel comfortable in the water, being splashed, going underwater, laying flat on the surface, blowing bubbles, etc. A parent or adult figure (adult being an individual 16 or older) must accompany their student in this class. Preschool Lessons (Ages 4-5) Preschool 1 Preschool classes are for children aged 4 and 5. Preschool 1 focuses on developing beginning swimming skills: bobs, floats, glides, supported kicks, etc. A parent or adult figure (adult being an individual 16 or older) must accompany their student in this class Preschool 2 Preschool classes are for children aged 4 and Preschool 2 takes beginning preschool swimmers to a more advanced level. They will start putting together kicks and arms with backstroke and front crawl, and will focus on mastering elementary backstroke. By the time they age out of preschool classes, they should be ready for Learn-To-Swim 2 or higher! In a case where a child has “passed” this level but has not aged out, they may choose to take Private Lessons, continue learning in PK2, or discuss LTS level placement options with the Aquatics Manager. A parent or adult figure (adult being an individual 16 or older) must accompany their student in class. Learn-to-Swim (ages 6-12) Each Learn-To-Swim class is 30 minutes long for children ages 6 to 12 years. 2-6 students per class. A parent does not need to be in the water for any LTS levels, unless an instructor, supervisor, or manager requests so for behavioral or safety purposes. Learn-To-Swim 1 approaches swimming from the very beginning, helping kids become comfortable in and under the water with floats, glides, kicks, and other basics. Learn-To-Swim 2 helps develop stronger swimming skills. Students will get used to deeper water in the Wellness pool, work on glides, kicks, and arm movements in combination, including front crawl, elementary backstroke, and backstroke. Learn-To-Swim 3 helps kids gain more confidence, technical ability, and prepares them for swimming in deep water. Front crawl, backstroke, and elementary backstroke, and treading water are a big focus. Learn-To-Swim 4 introduces breaststroke, butterfly kick, and flip turns in addition to refining breath-arm-bubble-arm skills in front crawl and improving backstroke technique. Learn-To-Swim 5 focuses on refining breaststroke, having excellent front crawl, backstroke, and butterfly kick form, working on longer distances with open turns and flip turns, and building on dive skills from previous levels. Learn-To-Swim 6 focuses on the butterfly stroke and swimming greater distances. 50-yard swims with appropriate turns for crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly (combined) are ideal to pass this level. Private Swim Lessons PRIVATE LESSON POLICY Private Lessons Private lessons are available on a similar timeline to our group lessons. These are typically offered as once-a-week or twice-a-week classes, M-Th. One or two students of similar level may sign up for the same class timeslot with an instructor (siblings, cousins, etc). Private lessons are billed per lesson. If not paid in full upfront, a card on file is required. For more information, please check our private lesson policy (linked on this page) or call the front desk for an updated schedule! Adaptive Youth Swim Lessons Adaptive Youth Swim Lessons are for children ages 5-12 who struggle with developmental delays/disabilities and/or autism. It can be challenging for your child to learn to swim in a traditional group lesson, where the instructor's focus is split amongst up to six students! We also understand that both the timeframe and price point for one-on-one private swim lessons that we offer on weekday afternoons may not be the best option for everyone, and may not secure a spot with an instructor who has experience in special education We have scheduled these Adaptive Swim Lessons as 20-minute classes, taught one-on-one with a certified special educator on Saturday mornings. Other swim lesson options are, of course, always available as well. It is so important for everyone to learn to swim, and we hope to expand this program in the future! Homeschool Swim Lessons Homeschool students of the Olympic Peninsula have a unique opportunity at the SHORE Aquatic Center when it comes to swim lessons! The flexible schedule that homeschooling provides allows us to use the pool for lessons in the early afternoon (typically between 1-4pm). We want homeschool swim lessons to be a great opportunity for your child to meet new friends while learning new skills. These lessons will be offered on Fridays: one half hour of swim lesson instruction time, followed by a half hour of combined-class, instructor-led group game & free swim time! The best part is, because these lessons are ongoing during open swim time, the whole family can come swim! For anyone who wishes to participate in free swim/group game time, we are offering a discounted day entrance rate of $4 per person (ages 3 and under are free, as always). This will cover open swim until 4pm (typical afternoon closure time is 3pm) and children under the homeschool day rate can participate in any class's group game time--not just their own class game time! During lesson instruction time, certain pools or sections of a pool may be closed off to avoid instructor or student distraction. During sign-ups, if the class or level your child is interested is full, please consider joining the waitlist for the specific class--where demand is high enough, we will add additional classes to our schedule. Teen & Adult Swim Lessons Beginning in March our Teen/Adult swim lessons will split into a beginner & advanced level. These classes are 30 minutes long, and are held on Saturday mornings. These lessons are for teens and adults with varying levels of ability, ages 13 and up. Instructors work with each student to set individual goals. This class is appropriate for beginning swimmers or those looking to refine their stokes. Beginners'' class will be held in the Wellness pool; the Advanced class will be coached in the lap lanes (minimum 25yd front crawl with rhythmic breathing & 25 yd backstroke). Our instructor has 25+ years of experience teaching all levels and ages, from babies to 85 years, including competitive swimming and coaching. Starting in March 2026, you can now sign up for each individual class day. This means you could drop in for just on Saturday, or sign up for class up to three months at a time! Call the front desk to find out more. Dive Class (must pass LTS3 or pass dive tank test) An introduction to fundamental Springboard Diving Skills. Swimmers must have completed Learn to Swim 3 or higher. Proficiency in deep water is required. This class is not currently being offered at SHORE Aquatic Center. In cases where only one student is registered parents can opt to transfer to another class, get a credit on their account, request a refund, or pay for the second student.
